Imi Keubel - Artist

Delighted to have discovered Imi Keubel this week, after reading that he has a show opening today at White Cube Gallery, Bermondsey, his first London exhibition in his 50 year career. I'm currently finding his work so inspiring! His bold, abstracted color, clean, graphic nature, and his unusual color combinations are endlessly fresh and feel perfect right now.....Happy  :)

Born in Dessau, Germany, 75 years ago - no less! Imi studied applied arts at the Darmstadt School of Arts and Crafts, following the theories of Johannes Itten and Laszlo Moholy-Nagy of the Bauhaus. He spent the next 7 years studying under Joseph Beuys at the Staatliche Kunstakademie in Dusseldorf....what an enviable experience all round! The results of which can be seen in a smattering of my favorite pieces below.

'Collages' of painted wood or metal in abstract geometric shapes, layered together creating inspiring color combinations and patterns....

More formalized 'Frame' compositions again play with color theory spanning deep, bright and pastel hues.

Exploded, messy Plaids and Weaves....or a crazy game of Jack Straws!!
